BOAT CLASSIFICATIONS
Boat descriptions provided below are only to assist you in identifying the boat type based on the kayak, canoe or vessel you might own and wish to enter in the competition. Detailed specifications of all boat categories can be found (click on the tab RIVER RACE) in the official Rules and Regulations document in Chapter II: Restrictions, Race Categories and Classes of Boats.
- Multi-Person Unlimited and Four-Person Kayak (K4): Unlimited Kayak, Canoe, or any type of human propelled boat that can accommodate more than three paddlers. These vessels will not have to adhere to governing body boat specifications. To enter this category, you must have three or more partners. K4 must meet specifications as outlined in the official rules and regulations.
- ICF K2 & Tandem Unlimited: International Canoe Federation Two-Person Kayak and Tandem Unlimited (Two-Person) Kayak/Canoe/ or human propelled boats requiring two people to adequately propel the vessel. To enter under this category, you must have a second partner. ICF K2 must meet specifications as outlined in the official rules and regulations. Tandem Unlimited does not have governing body boat specifications.
- ICF K1 & Solo Unlimited: International Canoe Federation One-Person Kayak and Solo Unlimited Kayak/Canoe/ or human propelled vessels which can only accommodate one paddler. ICF K1 must meet specifications as outlined in the rules and regulations. Solo Unlimited does not have to adhere to governing body boat specifications.
- USCA C2: United States Canoe Association Two-Person Canoe. These vessels accommodate two paddlers to adequately propel the boat. To enter under this category, you must have a second partner. USCA C2 boats must meet specifications as outlined in the official rules and regulations.
- USCA C1 and ICF C1: United States and International Canoe Federation One-Person Canoe. These boats accommodate only one paddler. USCA C1 and ICF C1 must meet specifications as outlined in the official rules and regulations.
- ICF C2: International Canoe Federation Two-Person Canoe boats require two paddlers to propel the vessel. To enter this category, you must have a second partner. ICF C2 boats must meet specifications as outlined in the official rules and regulations.
- ICF K1 Women’s: International Kayak 1-Person Women’s is a special category for the 9-mile race. The boat specification for ICF K1 Women’s is the same as all ICF K1.
